Nutrition has always been an important part of my life, and now more than ever, I am paying specific attention to the specific foods I consume. I’ve been keeping an eye on protein, whole foods, and superfoods in particular. But as life becomes busier and the tasks pile up, nutrition can sometimes be hard to keep track.
The old saying goes, “Breakfast is the most important meal of the day.” And while I love all my meals, I have to agree: Breakfast is literally the fuel that sets you up for your day. After waking up, your body craves food, and we should give it what it needs to succeed.
Smoothies are a great way to start or supplement your day. I’ve recently been obsessed with this beautiful beet smoothie. It’s not only a vibrant fuchsia but also jam-packed with greatness: Beets with their essential vitamins and minerals, Greek yogurt for protein and calcium, peanut butter for fat, strawberries for a pop of freshness, hemp hearts for extra texture and protein, and honey for sweetness. This is also a great smoothie to prepare the night or week before. For example, I steam my beets while meal prepping and immediately toss them into the freezer. This trick, and using frozen strawberries, eliminates the need to dilute your smoothie with ice. In a hurry? Make this smoothie in under 5 minutes for a delicious, nutritious breakfast on-the-go.
