Traditional Homemade Dumplings – Happy Lunar New Year!

In addition to red envelopes, firecrackers, and lanterns, Lunar New Year is about gathering around the table for a big feast and spending time with family. In Chinese culture, a big family dinner during this time of year symbolize luck, which is always welcomed at my table! We also celebrate with specific dishes. Noodles represent longevity, fish embodies fortune (the Mandarin pronunciation for fish sounds a lot like fortune’s pronunciation!), dumplings symbolize prosperity. What seemingly looks like a hodgepodge of delicious dishes is truly Chinese culture.

Veggie Filling recipe:

• 1 cup shredded cabbage
• 2 cups diced mushrooms
• 6 ounces extra firm tofu
• 2 large scallions minced
• 2 TB minced fresh ginger
• 2 TB soy sauce
• 1 TB sesame oil

Pork & Scallion Filling:

• 12 ounces ground lean pork
• 2 large scallions minced
• 2 TB fresh ginger minced
• 2 garlic cloves minced
• 3 TB sou sauce
• 1TB sesame oil salt and pepper

Dipping sauce

• 1 TB chopped fresh ginger
• 4 TB soy sauce
• 2 TB rice vinegar
