Mother’s Day is this Sunday – where did all the time go! My mom has been a pillar of support growing up and even today. She instilled my love of gardening in me, and I hope I can make my garden half as pretty and unique as hers! (See what my garden/outdoor “vision board”/inspiration looks like.)
Wherever you may be now – miles away from home, shuttling between different time zones, or staying at your childhood home – take some time to call or text your mom. From personal experience, these few minutes brighten our days. Holidays like Mother’s Day are great to remember the role each person brings to your life, but honestly we should celebrate our family, friends, and communities every day. It’s the small things that add up.
See below for for my curated list of fun Mother’s Day gifts! There are many ways to show your love — gifts of service, time, verbal, and material. Remember, a good gift doesn’t have to be an object. Let’s get creative!
Have flowers delivered to her house! See if there are local nurseries, farms, or flower shops near her house, and give a call to schedule. The earlier the better. OR can you harvest flowers yourself? Create your own miniature flower arrangement, and collect small flowers and grasses outside. This is bound to bring a smile to her face.
Write down a list of 10 of your favorite moments together. Get detailed and specific. Either send this list to her, or get on the phone/video and read them aloud! This is sure to bring back some laughs and maybe some tears of joy. Remember a gift is not just a material object.
Compile your favorite photos of you together in a slide show. There are many services like google photos and Iphoto that will add music for you, and make it super easy to create a simple and nostalgic slideshow.
If you’re able to see each other, make her a meal! There’s nothing quite like home cooking, especially these days! Take the time to cook your mama a meal, from a nice egg brunch, to a healthy bowl, or a delicious crockpot dinner.
