Visiting Martha’s Vineyard for a weekend? I’ve compiled some of my favorite spots on the island for you to check out when visiting for a [hopefully long] weekend.
For those of you who don’t know, I spent my childhood growing up on Martha’s Vineyard. Surrounded by the unbounded ocean, green flora, and numerous attractions, Martha’s Vineyard has always been – and will be – my home. I have countless memories of lifeguarding on South Beach, going to summer camp at Felix Neck Sanctuary, and going on long family sails in the Edgartown harbor. I wouldn’t trade those memories for anything!
Martha’s Vineyard is a popular destination for first-time tourists and seasoned travelers. There are many online articles and hardcopy guides that detail quirky shops, homey restaurants, beloved trails, and general “things to do.” As a [former] local, I want to share some of my favorite places on the island.
Here’s a rough itinerary of what to do if you’re on the Vineyard for just a few days.
Family friendly beaches: State Beach (Bend in the road beach). Calm water, and plenty of beach. If its a hot sunny day make sure to get there early to secure a parking spot!
Jaws Bridge: towards the Oak Bluffs side of State Beach is the famous Jaws bridge where you can jump off into the water if you’re brave enough! (it’s fun though I promise!)

Family friendly casual restaurant: Noman’s. This is where the iconic Lola’s use to be, and now is a super fun restaurant with lots of outdoor seating, lawn space for games like corn hole, and often live music. Great food, (and cold brew) too!
Bike Rentals: Edgartown Bicycles. Assortment of beach cruisers and nice road bikes.
Ice Cream: Mad Martha’s. There are a few of them on the island, but its a staple, don’t skip out on the ice cream!
Fresh Produce: Check out Morning Glory Farm for amazing fresh produce and delicious breads. (Their zucchini bread is some of the best!) It’s also just a beautiful farm, with fresh cut flowers, and a cute atmosphere.
Amazing views: Drive up island to Aquinnah to check out the beach there, the beautiful lighthouse, and the brightly colored orange clay cliffs. And bring your camera!
Sunsets: Menemsha Beach. Get yourself some seafood at Larsen’s Fish Market, and bring your beach blanket, sit out on the beach with your crew, eat dinner while watching the sun go down. Don’t be alarmed when everyone starts to clap when the sun submerges below the horizon. ha!
Great dinner: The Port Hunter. Great raw bar, incredible appetizers like Vermont Burrata, asparagus with an over-easy egg, fresh green salads, etc.
Shopping: Check out Kenworthy. Beautiful island made women’s apparel – that perfect summer beach dress, or slouchy sweater, check out their store in downtown Edgartown!
Casual Seafood: The Net Result. Great spot to pick up raw seafood to bring home to cook, or grab some fresh rolled sushi, lobster roll, crab cake sandwich, or peel and eat shrimp.
There are SO many other places I love, but this is a good start. Hope you enjoy one of my favorite places in the whole world!
This is awesome! I have been going since I was 7 (35 now) supposed to be there now but my family decided not to because of COVID. I think you forgot BackDoor Donut though :).
Can’t wait to visit in a few weeks!
Never been. The first place my mind goes to Martha’s Vineyard is Ted Kennedy and Chappaquiddick. I suppose it is the nonfiction writer in me. I just found it so interesting. Yes, I’m a dork. Thanks for sharing. I’m a fan of trying out the cliff jumping. I’d have to check it out.
I’d add the Outermost Inn. Great food and incredible setting!
Love this!!! I’ve been going to MV since I was 5 (now 41) and still LOVE every minute of it. Vineyard Haven is our second home! ❤️
